When you try to open a website you get the following message: |
| |
Internet explorer cannot open the internet site .............. Operation aborted |
| |
| |
There are several possible causes; |
| |
| |
1: Damaged or corrupt IE "plug in" |
Open Internet Explorer |
| |
Click on 'Tools', then 'Internet Options' |
Click 'Delete Cookies'
| |
Click 'Delete Files' |
Click 'Clear History' |
| |
Then click on 'settings' |
| |
Then click on 'View Objects' |
| |
A window will then appear that says 'Downloaded Program Files' |
| |
Delete everything in this window |
| |
Close out of the window, click 'OK' on the settings window. This should bring you back to the Internet Options screen |
| |
From here, click on the 'security' tab, and change security level to medium-low (You may have to click on 'Default Level' first) Now click on the tab that says 'Advanced'. Click on 'Restore defaults' |
| |
Then, uncheck the box that says 'enable third-party browser' extensions |
Click 'apply' |
| |
Close Internet Explorer, and reopen. |
| |
| |
2: Spyware or virus infection on computer. |

3: HTML/JS (unconfirmed) coding bug in Windows XP SP1 and SP2 or just bad coding on the page.
We won't get bogged down with the technical details on this page. Briefly it is a problem with the way IE and some websites interact. |
In this scenario there are really only two things you can try: |
| |
1. Advise the owner of the website you want to get to of the problem and hope he/she will fix or remove the conflicting code. |
| |
2. Turn off scripting entirely in IE (This may cause other sites to not work correctly) |
| |

Click the Security tab.
Click Custom Level in Security Level for this Zone.

| |
4: 'Hosts' file problem |
Search for a file named HOSTS with no extension (not Hosts.sam). It could be a
hidden file. Open it with Notepad and delete any line refering to the site in question.
| |
| |
5: Other Options |
Try an alternative web browser such as |
